Devizes Town Council Civic Home Page

Devizes Town Council is proud of the towns history and actively seeks to maintain its civic history and ceremonial duties. It is fortunate in having acquired, over the past 380 or so years, a fine collection of monuments, fine art and insignia & plate (historical artefacts) of which it is justly proud.

The collection of fine art and insignia & plate may be viewed at the Town Hall by special arrangement with the Town Clerk.

The full collection also reflects Devizes' twinning links with the towns of Mayenne in France; Waiblingen in Germany; Oamaru in the South Island of New Zealand and the city of Tornio in Lapland, Finland.

Several other items of insignia & plate relate to the town's close association with the military, whose occupation of the various barracks in London Road was a feature of the life of Devizes for many decades.

Civic and ceremonial events are normally led or presided over by the town's mayor, this includes such events as:

Annual Civic Awards Presentation
Christmas Festival
Freedom March
Mayor's Carol Concert
Remembrance Sunday Parade
Town in Bloom Presentation
Town's Twinning Event

Other town events that the Town Mayor or the Deputy Mayor often participate in throughout the year are community events and are usually managed by local organisations who work relentlessly to to bring enjoyment to the towns folk and visitors alike.
