I am greatly honoured and delighted to be elected as Mayor of Devizes. I have lived in Devizes since I was 9 and my heart is in this town.
Already as Deputy Mayor I have been able to sample some of the experiences that the coming year will have in store for me – and I am really looking forward to getting stuck in.
I want to be a champion for our town, supporting our own local Devizes people and organisations – if my presence at an opening of a fete or an award ceremony will help to make a bit of a difference, then I will do my very best to be there.
Many of you may know me through the Major Wrecks – I’m the little one with the big moustache! The charity we support is Contact a Family, and it will be no surprise that I have chosen this as one of my charities for my Mayoral Appeal.
Deciding which charities to support has been a really difficult job. There are so many of you doing a brilliant job to make our community a special place. In the end, alongside Contact a Family, I have chosen Devizes & District Disabled Association and Age Concern. All of these charities do sterling work for the people of Devizes and I look forward to trying to raise lots of money on their behalf.
If anyone would have told me that I would, one day, be Mayor of Devizes, I never would have believed them – but here I am and I am going to do my best to serve our town and our people throughout my Mayoral year.
