Promoting a healthier lifestyle by giving people the facilities for leisure and recreation is very important to us. We want good recreational and leisure opportunities to be available for people of all ages. Whether for sport, play or just enjoying the ambience of a quiet place, we hope our facilities contribute to the health of our community.

Located on the south side of town adjacent to Queens Road Hillworth Park offers a mixture of landscape gardening, children’s play areas, an aviary, tennis courts and open recreation space.

The Green
The Green is a well used open space, freely accessible to the public in the heart of the Town.
The Green is used for Fairs, Circuses, charity and community events. The Green is split into two by the A342 Andover Road and for reasons which become clear when you visit are called the Large Green and Small Green.
To the edge of the Small Green is The Crammer (pond) an old watering hole for animals which were being brought to Market. It is also thought Crammer is origin for Moonraker Legend. The Whole area covers some 10.5 hectares.
Avon Road Play Area
On the east side of town off Avon Road is large play and recreational area. Covering half a hectare, the facility comprises of a wide variety of children’s play equipment, a mini basket ball court, a trim trail a hard surface with integrated goal for football as well as a junior football pitch.
Leipzig Plantation
Just outside the town to the north is the Victorian Leipzig Plantation from where you can look over the town. It comprises mostly of beach trees and covers an area of approximately 4.5 hectares. The plantation has public access for woodland works and is also used by youth and community groups for camping and exercises.
Sports facilities at Green Lane
Situated on the southern edge of town off the A342 Andover Road, the 6.5 hectare site is regally used by the local football league for its matches. The facility is also regularly used by the Devizes Bowmen a local archery club.
Allotments
The Town Council owns and run 2 allotment sites within the town for the use of parish residents.
Quakers Walk allotment site is adjacent to the Kennet and Avon Canal, which amounts to an area of some 1 hectare. There are 40 plots, some of which have been subdivided.
Windsor Drive allotment site is adjacent to Windsor Drive, which has been recently acquired by the Town Council. The site comprised of 130 plots. In addition to the standard plots there are a number of plots set aside for community groups use and some raised beds for disabled use.
Play Areas
The Town Council is very proud of its tradition of providing high quality, safe play areas for children and young people within its parks and open spaces The play areas are located at Hillworth Park which has an Under 5’s play area, Under 11’s Play Area, The Green which has an Under 12’s play area
And Avon Road, which has an Under 11’s play area.
