People in Devizes who have gone above and beyond the call of duty to serve their communities can be honoured by receiving a Civic Award.

Civic awards are given to people who have supported charities, provided employment and helped community groups.

There are four types of Awards:

1. Environmental Award

To be awarded to any individual, voluntary group, business/organisation who has made a recent improvement to the natural or built environment in Devizes (within the parish boundaries) eg. improvement of open space, re-use of derelict land or refurbishment of buildings.

2. Service to the People

To be awarded to any individual who has helped to improve the quality of life for people in Devizes.

3. Community/Group

To be awarded to a group who help their community or individuals in Devizes.

4.  Long Service Award (40 years service)

To be awarded to individuals who have worked for the same Devizes Company for 40 years or more.

The Civic Awards presentation takes place each year after the Annual Town’s meeting in April.

Devizes has a number of long established international twinning and friendship links with towns across the world. Twinning in the modern sense began after World War II when there was a conscious effort by national and local governments to take steps to heal the wounds, and aim for a more peaceful world. In all forms of Twinning there is the aim of international co-operation and understanding.

This three way twinning link The link stretches back to the early 1960s when the initial link was established between Mayenne and Waiblingen.

Although a twinning link, the relationship with Oamaru is not a very active one due to the distances involved. However, the friendship between the towns is a warm one based on emails and mutual letters of introduction when people of our towns visit each others.
